Welcome to the Why I’m Not Writing This Week series!
If you’re not familiar with this series, just know that the only thing writers love more than writing is avoiding writing. And I am definitely no exception. Today, I’ll list five things that distracted me from my writing this week.
I encourage you to share with me your reasons for not writing every week too and I’ll share my favorites in the latest edition.
Colorado Bound
This week I’m traveling for my day job in Colorado. It’s difficult to get writing in between conference seminars and conference meetings, but I’m getting a ton of inspiration from the beautiful surroundings here. It’ll be difficult to keep this place out of my current projector.
NaNoWriMo
Speaking of my current project, I’ve jumped into National Novel Writing Month again this year. I skipped last year to focus on my son, but I’m itching to start something new. And I’m doing something very new this year by writing outside my usual genre and writing a contemporary romance novel instead. I’m looking forward to just exploring the characters and having fun with this story without any pressure.
Fall Weather In Full Swing
The weather has finally committed to make a change to the fall here in North Carolina. We’re seeing cooler weather and some beautiful leaf changes. While I prefer to stay warm, I love the atmosphere of Fall and it’s difficult not to spend all day just staring out the window.
Christmas Shopping
It seems way too early for me, but it’s already time to start Christmas shopping. We have most of our loved ones covered already, but have a few more family members to buy for this year. It’s definitely time consuming trying to pick out the perfect gift and stay on budget, but it gets me into the spirit of the season, at least!
Love Life On HBO MAX
My most recent watch is the newest season of Love Life on Amazon Prime. The first season followed one character through the many chapters of her life to find her soul mate. It’s been really interesting seeing this same format following a new character. If you’re interested in romance stories and character studies, it could make for a fun writing exercise!
