Why I'm Not Writing This Week - November 10th

Welcome to "Why I'm Not Writing." We all know that the only thing writers like doing better than writing is avoiding writing. So every Friday I list five things that have distracted me from my writing that week.

I also encourage you to share with me what made you procrastinate this week by posting with #whyimnotwriting on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram, or share in the comments below. I'll feature my favorites with everyone here.

1. Daylight Saving Time Ends

I am all messed up this week. First off, we got an extra hour of sleep on Sunday, so I should have been well rested, but instead I was just groggy and confused. Because, regardless of how much I reminded myself before, I did not remember when I woke up the next morning that the world was an hour behind me. Now, I come home and it's pitch black out and poor Pluto thinks I'm late. It's just a big old mess and no one can realistically expect me to write under these circumstances.

2. I Passed My MFA!

If you know me, or have read my About page, you know I've been working for two years on my Masters of Fine Arts in Fiction. I submitted my final thesis for review about two weeks ago and heard back on Saturday that I'd passed. Instead of writing to celebrate, I went out with friends and popped a bottle of champagne, but can you really blame me?

3. Thor Ragnarok

Daniel has been talking about this movie for months and since we're both big fans of Taiki Waititi, we made a special trip out to go see it. I can't recommend it enough! It's a well written, hilarious and entertaining film. Plus, you can see Pluto in his debut role as Fenrir the wolf!

4. Wedding Pictures Are Finished

Daniel and I got married about two months ago and our wedding pictures came in this week. I have about 140 pictures to go through, upload to Facebook and field the influx of comments, likes and shares from friends and family members. It's one of the few "fun" things we had left to look forward to from the wedding. Now all we really have to look forward to is the Thank You notes. Yuck.

5. Twitter

Me and the rest of the NaNo community have been having a lot of fun on Twitter over the past week. There are word sprints, word dares, challenges, prompts, and just overall fun. Come join us using #NaNoWriMo and follow me to get in on the fun!

Why Aren't You Writing?

Here's a great reason to procrastinate that we can all relate to. Obsessing over your outline is the guaranteed way to suck time.

There's also this hilarious cat-shaming reason for putting off your writing, NaNoWriMo specifically. But how can you say no to that face?

And on a more somber note, let's all send lots of love and good thought to this twitter user as he mourns the loss of his family member.

Finally, this one reader who didn't write this week for a great cause!
