5 Best Podcasts For Writers

If you’re an aspiring author, you need to stay up to date on the latest publishing news and trends. But if you’re like me and spend your day chasing your children/animals, working your day job, and keeping up with your sanity, in your free time you want to actually work on your book instead of researching publishing updates. Podcasts are a great way to listen to news and interviews while doing your other daily work. Here are five great podcasts for aspiring published writers.

The Shit No One Tells You About Writing

This is a podcast for emerging writers, who are looking to improve their work with an aim to having it published, or anyone who would like a behind-the-scenes look at the publishing industry. Your host, Bianca Marais (the author of 'Hum If You Don't Know the Words' and 'If You Want to Make God Laugh') will be interviewing authors, agents, editors, publicists, copy editors, creative writing instructors, writing groups, book sellers, jacket designers, audio book narrators, and just about anyone and everyone who's involved in bringing a book to market. She's joined by literary agents, Carly Watters and CeCe Lyra, from P.S. Literary Agency who read and critique query letters and opening pages in their regular Books with Hooks segment. Expect good advice, honest insights, and a few laughs along the way.

DIY MFA

This show began as a series of solo episodes with Gabriela jamming about writing topics that struck her fancy with a few interviews sprinkled in for fun. Those interviews became so popular that Gabriela soon started doing more and more. Eventually this podcast has become a popular weekly interview show featuring bestselling authors, debuts, and experts in the publishing industry.

In each episode Gabriela and her guest do a deep dive into one specific aspect of writing, looking either at the craft, the business side, or both. Listen in while Gabriela  and her guest geek out over books, writing, and all things literary.
